From Spiking Neurons to Brain Waves

چکیده
Two models of the neocortex are developed to study normal and pathological neuronal activity. One model contains a detailed description of a neocortical microcolumn represented by 656 neurons, including superficial and deep pyramidal cells, four types of inhibitory neurons and realistic synaptic contacts. Simulations show that neurons of a given type exhibit similar behavior in this detailed model. This observation is captured by a population model which describes the activity of large neuronal populations with two differential equations with two delays. Both models appear to have similar sensitivity to variations of total network excitation. Analysis of the population model reveals the presence of multistability, which was also observed in various simulations of the detailed model1.

Improving the Izhikevich Model Based on Rat Basolateral Amygdala and Hippocampus Neurons, and Recognizing Their Possible Firing Patterns
Introduction: Identifying the potential firing patterns following different brain regions under normal and abnormal conditions increases our understanding of events at the level of neural interactions in the brain. Furthermore, it is important to be capable of modeling the potential neural activities to build precise artificial neural networks. The Izhikevich model is one of the simplest biolog...
متن کاملTheoretical and Computational Evaluation of the Use of Molecular Nanoelectronic Technology in Targeted Monitoring of Electrical Brain Waves to Predict Some Neuro-cerebral Attacks
Abstract Background and Objectives: Today, it is expected that by using molecular nanoelectronic, the symptoms emitted from neurons will be studied. Many studies show that abnormalities in the normal functioning of brain cells can lead to neurological attacks. One of the most common brain system defects is epileptic seizures. In this case, due to the electrical discharge of a group of neurons,...
متن کاملWaves and oscillations in networks of coupled neurons
Neural systems are characterized by the interactions of thousands of individual cells called neurons. Individual neurons vary in their properties with some of them spontaneously active and others active only when given a sufficient perturbation. In this note, I will describe work that has been done on the mathematical analysis of waves and synchronous oscillations in spatially distributed netwo...
متن کامل(S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine )an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors( induced synaptic potentiation at excitatory synapses on fast spiking GABAergic cells in visual cortex
Introduction: (S)- 3,5-Dihydroxyphenylglycine (DHPG) is an agonist for group I metabotropic glutamate receptors. DHPG-induced synaptic depression of excitatory synapses on hippocampal pyramidal neurons is well known model for synaptic plasticity studies. The aim of the present study was to examine the effects of DHPG superfusion on excitatory synapses on pyramidal and fast-spiking GABAergic cel...
متن کاملThe effects of locus coeruleus electrical stimulation on brain waves of morphine dependent rats
Introduction: Opiates cause dependency via affect on central nervous system. Locus coeruleus nucleus is a main group of noradrenergic neurons in the brain that plays an important role in the expression of opioid withdrawal signs. During opioid withdrawal, brain waves change in addition to physical and behavioral signs. In this study, we examined the effects of locus coeruleus electrical sti...
